Rockies Players Named in Mitchell Report

The Mitchell Report on steroid use in baseball released today named several Colorado Rockies players as steroid users.
Current Rockies pitcher Matt Herges, current first-base coach Glenallen Hill, former infielder Mike Lansing, former outfielder Jack Cust, former pitcher Denny Neagle and ex-outfielder Larry Bigbie are among the names that the report links to steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs.
Colorado Congresswoman Diana DeGette announced she has called for hearings (no link, received by e-mail.)
"The Mitchell Report released today is deeply disturbing. Baseball is our national pastime and to learn of widespread past and ongoing drug abuse in major league baseball is a tremendous shame for America. Children around the world look up to professional baseball players as heroes and role models. This drug abuse needs to stop." "We have held hearings on this issue before in my committee, the House Committee on Energy and Commerce. This report shows more investigation is needed. As soon as Congress returns after the New Year, I intend to call for another hearing. Baseball officials need to explain to Congress and baseball fans how they plan to use the report to address the ‘serious drug culture within baseball' and how they are going restore the trust of Americans and children everywhere."
Others beat her to it. Reps. Henry Waxman (CA) and Tom Davis (VA) of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee have set a hearing for next Thursday.

i think travis is smart

What makes you think tax dollars paid for the report? Major League Baseball paid for it.

What is the point of these hearings? Why do people find the Mitchell Report to be so fascinating? All it says is what the media, other players and even congress has said before. There are performance enhancing drugs in baseball! Thanks Senator Mitchell. That was a giant waste of tax money. What needs to happen is action to be taken upon this. We did not need the Mitchell report to determine that. The only way action is happen is with full agreement with the Players Union. And honestly until they adopt programs to the likes of the NFL or even stricter, not much will change. The players union will not agree for some time, and they will even threaten another strike. But all in all, this so called report was nothing but a waste of time.
