The Goose is loose

It took nine tries, but Colorado Springs native Richard "Goose" Gossage finally got his call to the National Baseball Hall of Fame today, putting the former closer among the most elite ball players to have ever put on a jersey. Gossage – a nine-time all-star who played for nine teams -- becomes only the fifth relief pitcher to be enshrined. During his career (1972-1994), Gossage recorded 310 saves. According to The Associated Press, Gossage was listed on 466 ballots, or 85.8 percent (retired players need a minimum 75 percent). He will be inducted July 27 in Cooperstown, N.Y.
