Ft. Collins to Get Medical Marijuana Shop

April 1 2008, 9:57 PM

A medical marijuana shop will open Monday in Fort Collins.

James and Pat Fleming say they plan to serve the needs of people who suffer from chronic pain and other illnesses and that they're "not out to be legal drug dealers." The EnerChi Healing Center store would be the first of its kind in Fort Collins. Other services they will offer include yoga, hypnosis, nutrition and meditation.

Is it legal? According to Fort Collins police, the answer is yes, provided the Flemings are certified providers and their customers have a state-issued medical marijuana card and a doctor's prescription. Colorado's law approving medical pot passed in 2000. Here are the rules regulating it (pdf) and the application forms. Have more questions? The Colorado Department of Public Health provides this handy FAQ page.
