Awards Roundup

For the second year in row, 5280 has been awarded the gold medal for civic journalism from the City and Regional Magazine Association. Mike Kessler's "Out in the Cold," from 5280's November issue, topped entries from Chicago, the Washingtonian, and other leading city publications. Maximillian Potter's "Nobody's Hero" won the same award in 2007. "Out in the Cold," which tells the story of the government's betrayal of workers at the Rocky Flats nuclear weapons plant, has been widely honored. As noted previously, it was a finalist for the prestigious National Magazine Award. More recently, it was awarded the Maggie Award for Best Feature from the Western Publishing Association. Max Potter's profile of comedian Josh Blue, "Twisted," also won the Maggie for Best Profile.
