Good Stuff: Cheese Shop Know-How

Last week Serious Eats, a popular food blog, ran a story called "10 Things to Look for in a Cheese Shop." As we read, we considered our three go-to spots, St Kilian's Cheese Shop, The Truffle Cheese Shop, and Chez Cheese Gourmet Market, and ticked off all 10 points for each. While the list included that cheeses be cut to order and wrapped in parchment or wax paper, we felt the most important tip was finding a cheesemonger who doesn't cop an attitude. What's the fun of trying something new if you're left uneducated about a purchase? We think these three local shops do a bang-up job of imparting their passion onto their customers. We always leave with new, exciting cheeses that we can't wait to unwrap. St Kilian's, 3211 Lowell Blvd., 303-477-0374; The Truffle, 2906 E. Sixth Ave., 303-322-7363; Chez Cheese, 1512 Larimer St. R24, 303-825-3122
