It was the lunch special–the promise of two slices of pizza and a soda for $5–that enticed us inside Pizzeria Mundo. The friendly staff at the reopened downtown spot guided us through the menu, and before long, two huge (each piece is equal to two), bubbling slices arrived at our table. Dough and sauce, mozzarella and ricotta are made in-house, and many of the seasonal veggies and herbs come from the eatery’s plot at Whittier Community Garden. We’ll be back for another piece of pie, along with sandwiches stuffed with goodies like sopressata, Haystack Mountain goat cheese, roasted peppers, and arugula.

Bonus: Seventy-five-cent PBRs.
