Trend Spotting: The Paper Plate Lunch

Last week, New York Times writer Jennifer Steinhauer forecasted the rise of the paper plate lunch, a traditional Hawaiian meal that usually includes white rice and mayo-loaded macaroni salad. Steinhauer credits president-elect Barack Obama, who publicly craved the combo, with bringing national--and possibly international--recognition to the carb-heavy lunch. Locally, check out 8 Island Hawaiian BBQ in Boulder for chef-owner Michael Iuchi's take on the meal.
