Restaurant Redux: From Swimclub 32 to El Camino

December 2008
When Swimclub 32's uber-hip, small-plate-and-big-bar menu had run its course, owners Grant Gingerich and Chris Golub didn't shut it down; they reinvented it. Now called El Camino, this Highlands Square joint features a menu of Mexican staples--prepared with natural ingredients and served on no-frills paper plates--including nachos, tacos, burritos, and quesadillas. Though the eatery maintains its predecessor's extensive (and expensive) bar lineup--coin-style margaritas cost $8--the simple, affordable food keeps the overall tab at recession-friendly levels. With cafeteria-style seating and a few plasma TVs, El Camino's vibe should be more populist, less poseur. 3628 W. 32nd Ave., 720-889-7946
