For the November 2006 edition of 5280 magazine, managing editor Lindsey Koehler profiled the then-controversial superintendent of Denver Public Schools, Michael Bennet.
As Bennet prepares to replace U.S. Senator Ken Salazar, charged with heading up President-elect Barack Obama's Interior Department, Koehler's insight into Bennet's values, leadership style, personal history, and vision for DPS is necessary reading for anyone who wants to know more about our newest representative in Washington. Koehler's profile, "He Says He Wants a Revolution," is now available in full online.
And for a closer look at the boots Bennet will be filling on the Hill, read executive editor Maximiliian Potter's profile of Ken Salazar, from the August 2008 edition of the magazine. More essential reading for a better understanding of Colorado's highest-ranking elected officials.Comments

Unbelieveable that there isn't any way to contact Senator Bennet except by snail mail or tolled long distance phone. There are many critical issues moving through the Senate at this time that require quick communication with our Senators.
One of my top issues for Senator Bennet is the latest back-door attempt to delay the transition date for the digital TV conversion. This will be back in the Senate either today or early next week and I want to voice my strong urging of a NO vote on this action that will likely cost more jobs.

UPDATE.....I just spoke with "Jeff" in Senator Bennet's office, and the above bill, S2433 is Dead, so no need to contact them on this issue....however I was told that there will not be an email address for Senator Bennet for several more days.

I am appalled that we still can't contact the new senator, especially when Senate Bill 2433 is about to be up for a vote, and was sponsored by then Senator Obama, and would increas our total Global Debt by BILLIONS. I want to express my opinion, and yes, I am a democrat, that we SHOULD NOT support this bill!!! Honestly, we need to take care of our homeland FIRST! Read on for more information:
The above mentioned Senate Bill (S. 2433) is a piece of legislation already in the works that all Americans need to know about...and know about now!
This Bill, sponsored by none other than our now "President / then Senator, Barrack Obama" with the backing of Joe Biden, who was on the Foreign Relations Committee, and all liberal democrats in Congress.
This bill is nothing short of a massive giveaway of the money and resources of wealth of the American people around the world, and a betrayal of the public trust, because, if passed, this bill would give over all present sovereignty of our country to the United Nations.
The noble sounding name of this bill, "The Global Poverty Act" is actually a Global Tax, payable to the United Nations, that will be required of all American taxpayers.
If passed in the Senate, (the House has already passed it), this bill would require our country to increase our foreign aid by $65 BILLION per year, or a minimum of $845 BILLION over the next 13 years!
That's on top of the billions of dollars in foreign aid that the taxpayers of this country already pay out! This will be in addition to the economic burdens this potential law places on our precarious economy, this bill, if passed in the Senate, will totally distroy whatever constitutionally protected rights and freedoms that remain by obligating us to meet the United Nations mandates.
According to Senator, now president, Obama, we should establish these United Nations' goals as benchmarks for U. S. spending.

I have tried and tried to contact Senator Bennet. Why is this so difficult?

Dear Senator Bennet,
I am a Colorado citizen who supports, in principle, the proposed economic stimulus package. However, I feel strongly that the package must be, in the words of New York Times columnist David Brooks, temporary, timely, and targeted. Please take a few minutes to read Brooks' well-written article, "Cleaner and Faster," New York Times, January 29, 2009, which draws from guidelines articulated by Harvard economist Larry Summers.

Thank you for taking a reasoned and principled approach to this pressing problem.

I too unsuccessfully tried to find a way to contact elusive union stooge Senator Bennet. I finally resorted to placing a long-distance phone call to the Capitol switchboard. The good Senator does have a lengthy menu of voice mail options, however. I finally spoke to a note taker who was highly indignant that I actually wanted to leave a comment and was not happy I was critical that there is no way to email the Senator. Guess his politicking back here in Colorado takes preference over him doing our business in the Senate.
