Sugar Rush: Big Fat Cupcake

You could say that 2008 was the year of the cupcake, what with the openings of The Shoppe, Happy Cakes, and Lovely Confections Bakery. But three weeks ago, the scene got even richer with the advent of Big Fat Cupcake, a sweet shop located next to Zaidy's Deli in Cherry Creek North. The goodies are indeed big and fat (they're large enough to share), and the 20 daily flavors--think Twinkie, Hostess CupCakes, Sno Balls, red velvet, Boston cream pie--are cheerfully nostalgic. Best of all, the cake remains light and moist (not an easy feat when baking en masse), and the icing tastes perfectly creamy. In my opinion, the cupcakes are dry and the staff is rude. The butter cream is even worse. Yet I kept going back for two years because I was told and believed that 10% if the daily proceeds were going to charity. Check out the Girls of Big Fat Cupcake where she's hawking a  calendar for her phony charity. How about investing in legit marketing schemes and leaving the public trust out of it entirely?

The cupcakes from Big Fat Cupcakes are absolutely disgusting!! Their frosting tastes like shortening and can be removed in one big, gross, slimy clump. The cakes are dry and tasteless and the flavors they offer are boring and unoriginal. The best cupcakes in Denver can be found at Lovely Confections. The Shoppe's S'more cupcakes are also quite addicting. Please don't waste your time or money at Big Fat Grosscakes!!

Big Fat Cupcake has the best cupcakes ever - moist, and the icing melts in your mouth. The array of flavors offered are amazing and unique. Sprinkles has nuthin' on Big Fat Cupcake! I have not tried the cup cakes at the Big Fat Cup Cake. Some of my friends have and they say they are great. Kathy the owner and chef baker is one of the nicest people that I know. As she has said this started when she was told she had Cancer. Opening a Cup Cake shop was a dream, it looks like it has come true. Kathy supports others that are fighting Cancer. Paying it forward is a way to make Cancer just a word. Go in and try the goodies. Good Job Gal.

I think their cupcakes are awful. The frosting just tasted like butter. Maybe they are still working the kinks out, but I would hope they would do that before opening.
