Avs' Winning Streak Stops in North Carolina

The Colorado Avalanche's three-game winning streak ended last night as the Carolina Hurricanes cruised to an easy 5-2 victory. Coach Tony Granato admitted to the Rocky Mountain News that his team "didn't play the smartest game; we played hard." Too hard, actually. The Avs matched a season high for penalties, ending up short-handed eight times in the first period, causing the teammates left on the ice to exert more energy.
