4 Freshman Legislators to Watch

A few freshmen legislators are turning some heads at the state Capitol this session. Here's a rundown of who they are and what they've done to get noticed. heath-rollie1. State Senator Rollie Heath Heath, a Boulder Democrat who ran for governor in 2002, has been involved in one of the most visible and contentious issues of the legislative session--the repeal of the Arveschoug-Bird general fund spending limits. scheffel-mark 2. State Senator Mark Scheffel The Parker Republican has impressed many in his party by guiding legislation to scrap the state business personal property tax. The proposal had been immediately shot down in years past, but it finally passed a Senate committee recently. foster-joyce 3. State Senator Joyce Foster The Denver Democrat is earning a reputation as a savvy legislator who is willing to work with Republicans. A controversial pro-Israel resolution she sponsored won near-unanimous approval in the Senate. pace-sal_small 4. State Representative Sal Pace Pace is already in the House Democratic leadership, serving as assistant majority caucus chair. His fellow legislators say the Pueblo Democrat is knowledgeable on the issues and legislative rules. Several Republicans also laud Pace's willingness to work across the aisle.
