Former Rocky Writer James Meadow Passes On

James B. Meadow, "a true wordsmith" with a "gift for storytelling" passed away yesterday after a serious bicycle accident at Chatfield State Park, prompting an outpouring of love from well-wishers. IWantMyRocky writes that the former Rocky Mountain News reporter "brought sparkle to whatever subject he was covering." His last piece was a Rocky story about a time capsule that was opened on the same day as the announcement to close the newspaper. In a statement (via The Denver Post), Meadow's family said yesterday that "James' condition deteriorated rapidly...and a follow-up CT scan revealed there was no brain activity." The family has been "humbled" by the support it received from Meadow's friends over the weekend. Arrangements have not yet been made, but a Facebook page has been created.
