Best Theater Bet: Phantom of the Opera

Sure, the special effects and stage design of Joel Schumacher's 2004 movie Phantom of the Opera are hard to beat--but really there's nothing like the stage version of Andrew Lloyd Webber's beloved musical. When the chandelier comes swooping, the stage alights in flame, and real actors belt favorites like 'Angel of Music" and "The Music of the Night," the effect is engrossing. No wonder the Buell has been packed since the show arrived in town. Through March 22, Tue-Fri 8 p.m.; Sat 2 p.m., 8 p.m.; Sun 2 p.m., 7:30 p.m. Buell Theater, Speer Blvd. and Arapahoe St. 303-893-4100, $25-$115
