Opt for Takeout at Phoenician Kabob

Walk into to Phoenician Kabob, the eatery that moved into the old Ivy Cafe spot at Colfax Avenue and Ivy Street nearly 10 months ago, and you might be tempted to turn around and walk right out. But don't. Continue on past the cluster of mostly empty tables to the register, and put in a takeout order. This quiet restaurant, run by Ibrahim Dahleh, may not be much to look at (or its service anything to stay for), but it serves up a solid menu of Middle Eastern and Lebanese fare that, after a busy day, makes for a quick, affordable dinner. Park Hill, Mayfair, and even Stapleton families can easily stop by--or better yet, call for delivery--for familiar dishes like gyros, falafel sandwiches, and tabbouleh salad. Whatever the order, be sure to ask for pita, much of which is delivered from Haji Baba, an authentic pita bakery across the street. 5709 E. Colfax Ave., 303-355-7213

Kazia's comments surprised me - and definitely not my experience. Don't judge a book by it's cover - as busy times seem to vary there - and to me it's still an "undiscovered" gem. Try the the grape leaves, lintel soup, and chicken kabob.... a nice split between two people. Add a glass of wine. Hummus and tabbouleh salad also a delight. The place has a great feel to it - I love sitting at the window seeing the world go by as I enjoy a delicious meal and listen to the pleasant middle eastern music. Yes it is not your white table cloth restaurant - but I think one will find eating in a better experience than take-out.

Lady, if this was an ambiance review, get over it! I have to ask: did you come alone? Is that why you chose take-out? Not enough "flair"? Chuck-e-cheese has flair. Have you been overseas? Olive Garden does not count. We love it here, we love the owner and we love the food! This is better than the American standard, dear.
