Best Outdoor Bet: DMNS' Nature Unleashed Showcases Weather Phenomena

16tornadochaser1Ever wonder why a dormant volcano suddenly blows its top? Or why some years have more hurricanes than others? This new exhibit from Chicago's Field Museum explains--with the most modern science--the causes of tornadoes, volcanoes, hurricanes, and earthquakes, and how these disasters affect real lives. Understand the power of tornadoes when you enter a five-screen theater showing real footage of the inside of a twister; hear the stories of Hurricane Katrina survivors; and make your own volcano explode when you digitally mix gases and silica (a mineral in the Earth's crust). Colorado's volcanic history and the Windsor tornado are also explained in this exhibit. Through May 3. Daily 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Denver Museum of Nature and Science, 2001 Colorado Blvd., 303-322-7009 Free with paid admission
