Sportaccord Conference Gives Denver a Leg Up on Olympic Host Competition

Sportaccord arrives in Denver this week, focusing international attention on the city (via 9News). Never heard of it? You're not alone. It's mostly "business suits, not tracksuits," putting their heads together to plan the future of sports, as Patrick Doyle writes this month for 5280 . Yet it's another coup for Denver, which recently hosted guests of the Democratic National Convention as well all-star games for professional soccer and basketball. The city's backdrop and glad-handers will try to woo the suits, perhaps helping Denver to host the Olympic games one day. Other Sportaccord hosts have included "Madrid, Beijing, and Athens--the caliber of cities that have won, or nearly won, the ultimate sporting event: the Olympics."
