American Idol meets contemporary dance in this month's Ballet Nouveau Colorado choreography competition. Months ago, the Broomfield-based ballet company posted several dance videos on YouTube and asked audiences--in this case, anyone in the world--to vote on them. Two University of Arizona dance alums and a retired professional from Minnesota Dance Theatre won the online competition. Since then, each of the three has worked with BNC's professional company (dancers to costume designers) to choreograph a final piece. Last weekend kicked off the performances, with audiences submitting their final votes via text message, and this weekend's shows will determine the winner. Apr. 3–5.
