I am an unlikely fan of baseball. With zero sports background and a severe peanut allergy, I could see the ballpark as a confusing trap of people yelling rules I don't understand and shelling peanuts that are tiny death stars of salty doom. I love the sunburns, the push of the crowds, and the confusing mid-game antics like Rockies workers hauling arse across the field and the crowd yelling to spur them on. I am the tourist who, instead of a fanny pack, wields overpriced plastic cups of Coors. I love that baseball's athletes are middle-age men with bellies who are sometimes forced to sprint from base to base. That said, I don't have a ticket to Opening Day. The $40 price quoted to me sounds like it would be better used for a week of groceries. (Don't worry, I'll be in the Rockpile soon.) But there are some sunny spring days when I crave the crazy crowds and people-watching.
