Will the Broncos Lose Another Young Star?

marshall-brandon1The Denver Broncos announced this weekend that Kyle Orton will be the team's starting quarterback. Forgive 90 percent of Bronco Nation for not being surprised, seeing as Orton beat out Chris Simms, who hasn't thrown a pass in a National Football League game since early in the 2006 season (via The Denver Post). Orton has proven himself as a starter, going 11-7 in 18 starts for the Chicago Bears dating to December 2007. Chances are he won't blow anyone away with arm strength or mobility, but he should be a serviceable quarterback. A major question looms as to whom Orton's top wide receiver will be. Brandon Marshall did not participate in the recent three-day passing camp that was required by the team, according to Scout.com, and left the team's Englewood facility--with his belongings in a cardboard box--after a meeting with team owner Pat Bowlen. He's apparently shooting for a new contract and doesn't trust the team's medical staff with rehabbing his hip. Marshall (pictured) would deserve a new contract if the decision was made purely on stats. But it's not, and here's hoping the Broncos aren't in for the departure of another young star who can't get his head on straight.
