Why Brandon Marshall Wants Out

marshall-brandon2On the Brandon-Marshall-wants-out drama front of the Denver Broncos: Marshall apparently asked for a trade this weekend during a meeting with Broncos owner Pat Bowlen, according to NFL Network reporter Adam Schefter (via 850 KOA). Marshall's upset with his contract and the fact that the team apparently didn't properly treat a medical condition with his hip. Pro Football Talk points out that Marshall has little to no leverage in the situation, since he's signed through the 2009 season. If Marshall holds out from training camp and then decides to sit out the season, he'll forfeit not only his pay but a year of service, which would put him at the same spot heading into the 2010 season. If the team does end up trading Marshall, he'll be the second of three 2008 Pro-Bowl Broncos to leave town (quarterback Jay Cutler was traded in April). The team's third Pro Bowler in 2008, center Casey Wiegmann, also wants a new contract, but he has reported to the team's Englewood headquarters for every voluntary and mandatory activity, according to The Associated Press. In other wide-receiver news, the Broncos signed Brandon Lloyd yesterday, an average player with experience on the Chicago Bears, the Washington Redskins, and the San Francisco 49ers.
