How to Scare a Mountain Lion

While camping in the Shoshone National Forest in northwestern Wyoming with his wife and two toddlers, Dustin Britton, a mechanic and former Marine from Windsor, was confronted by a mountain lion. Luckily he was cutting firewood with a chainsaw. When the lion pounced, Britton fought back with a slashing motion. "It batted me three or four times with its front paws, and as quick as I hit it with that saw it just turned away," he tells The Associated Press. The lion was wounded---the chainsaw created a gash up to eight inches on its shoulder---and Britton's forearm was punctured. Officials later tracked the lion using a dog, which the lion attacked before officials shot it. The animal appeared to be starving. The recent attack was one of eight rare incidents involving mountain lions in Wyoming over the last decade. One of them, according to the Star Valley Independent, included an attack on local hunters Kellen and Adam Lancaster about nine months ago.
