Where Guantanamo Detainees Are Likely to End Up

President Barack Obama's hopes of closing the Guantanamo Bay prison in Cuba may well move forward, but perhaps not in Colorado, where the idea has provoked near-lockstep opposition from lawmakers. The suspected terrorists might not end up in the federal Supermax facility in Florence after all; the Obama administration is seriously considering moving them to a military prison at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas and a maximum-security prison that otherwise would be closed in Standish, Michigan, according to The Washington Post and The Associated Press. The convicts would be tried and would serve time at the facilities, in a plan that has yet to move beyond the theoretical stage. "This is one of the ideas that's been floated and come under discussion," an unnamed official says, adding that a task force has not decided whether to formally recommend the plan.
