Why Tom Martino Is Starting Trouble With Westword

"Over the years," consumer-rights journalist Tom "Troubleshooter" Martino writes on Fox31's blog, "Westword has made a concerted effort to discredit me in numerous negative articles that were mostly filled with inaccuracies, lies and innuendos." Martino has since set out to turn his camera on Westword scribe Jared Jacang Maher in the kind of ambush reporting Martino's turned into a trademark. His beef with Maher is an article that links Martino to a multi-level marketing company that Martino promoted on Martino TV and his KHOW radio show. Martino lured Maher to a McDonald's with a phony tip last week (via Westword). "At first I thought it was the Hamburglar in his new role as a Fox News correspondent," Maher wrote, leaving Martino to chase after his car. Although Westword publicly invited Martino to meet with Maher and editors at a later date (some staff were at a journalism conference), Martino didn't wait, posting video at the Fox31 blog, highlighting a fruitless visit to Westword's offices. The kicker is that Martino's own reporting needs a correction after he held a grainy print-out of a photo of former Westword writer Adam Cayton-Holland, a local comedian, telling viewers it was a picture of Maher that he found online (via Westword).
