Governor Bill Ritter and his Colorado Jobs Cabinet announced a strategy yesterday that aims to create more jobs throughout the state, primarily by improving collaboration between schools and economic developers. Employers should be more engaged in the job-training process, and marketing is needed to promote workforce development jobs. Moreover, there should be a central Web site to which people can look for information about job resources, and the governor must put his face on the program and lead it. That's according to the Northern Colorado Business Report, which writes that Ritter promises the recommendations "will help ensure we recover stronger, quicker and healthier." Ritter, who appointed the jobs cabinet last year, later held a press conference at the Tivoli Commons on the Auraria campus, adding, "Government alone can not fix this economy or create more private-sector jobs. But we can do our part. We can create a better business-friendly environment" (via the Denver Business Journal). There were some interesting side notes, such as the concern Mesa County Workforce Center Director Sue Tuffin expressed about embracing online social networking as a way to find quality workers. She tells the Grand Junction Sentinel that her workforce center tried to recruit summer employees in 2008 on Facebook: "Unfortunately we were getting a lot of unusual people."
