Treat Yourself at Living the Sweet Life

Guess work is part of the fun at Living the Sweet Life, a one-and-a-half-month-old artisan-treats shop in Lower Highland that bakes in small batches to ensure freshness and ever-changing variety. My favorite item to date has been the dangerously delicious pecan-caramel bar, which owner Erika Cunha perks up with lemon and orange zest. A close second is the nutty, powdered-sugar-dusted Mexican wedding cake. But, you can hardly go wrong with buttery chocolate-chip cookies, vanilla cupcakes (topped with a perfectly salty buttercream frosting), fudge-y brownies, or raspberry linzer bars. I've also got my eye on Cunha's pies, which are her favorite desserts to bake. Her apple comes swathed in a layer of caramel, while her pumpkin raises the Thanksgiving bar with sweetened cream cheese on the bottom and candied walnuts and homemade English toffee on top. Come Christmastime, she'll bake up a limited number of huckleberry pies---with fruit she handpicked in Idaho. (Tip: She's already taking orders for holiday pies.) 1535 Central St., 303-477-8088

This is the best bakery in Denver. The people who run it are so friendly and this is a must when in Denver.

mmm... oatmeal cookies...scones... cream cheese frosting. I'm not really a sugar lover but the way treats here are always the perfect balance of flavors. Yum! I patiently wait all week for my chance to load up on treats on the weekend when I'm not at work. Sharing them also makes me quite popular.

The bakery (and the people) are absolutely wonderful. I enjoy the raspberry tarts AND the cupcakes.

Three cheers for this adorable bakery. Great design, nice people, and fabulous sweets. I love the cupcakes, but that pumpkin pie surely will be my new favorite! Plus, the view of downtown from the upstairs room should not be missed.

Friendly staff and great treats. I always end up leaving with more goodies than I planned on:-) The best part is that there is always something new to try. Keep up the great work Sweet Life!

I agree fully - always a bit of change but always good. I have had the apple pie as well as a special ordered fruit tart for a party (also featuring hand picked berries), and people could not believe how good both were. The apple pie is truly the best I've had. As a side note, if anyone's like me and can't think of having cake or cookie without coffee, they have coffee as well as a few tables upstairs to sit and enjoy the treats. Definitely a great addition to the area!

Pecan-caramel bar are the best! Also love the chocolate-chip cookies. Can't beat the view from the upstairs seating area. A new favorite place of mine in Denver.
