The Colorado Rockies keep finding ways to win tight baseball games. The team pulled off another dramatic victory at Coors Field last night, beating the Cincinnati Reds 4-3 after outfielder Seth Smith hit an infield single in the bottom of the ninth inning, with two outs and two strikes. The ball went straight toward Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips but came in a bit hot, and Phillips couldn’t make the play, writes The Denver Post. The Los Angeles Dodgers also lost last night, so the Rockies are just two-and-a-half games out of the division lead. Even the Los Angeles Times acknowledges that it’s not unreasonable to believe that the Rockies could win the division, noting that the Dodgers should be able to clinch the wild card even if they lose their division lead to the Rockies. (Uttering that possibility at the end of May would have gotten anyone laughed at.) The San Francisco Chronicle writes that the only way the Giants can get back into the race is if the Padres beat up on the Rockies and the Giants go 14-8 in their remaining games. Not likely
