Opening Day 2010: Rockies vs. Padres

The Colorado Rockies play their first home game today at Coors Field starting at 2:10 p.m. KWGN states the obvious: Downtown will be packed, and parking won't come easy anywhere in the area. A parade from 16th and Market streets to 20th and Blake streets will start at 11:30 a.m., so if you're headed downtown, be prepared for traffic or hop on one of the RTD RockiesRide buses. The Associated Press points out that the Rockies went 51-30 at Coors Field last year, so coming home should be a good way to ease out of their early series loss. Couple that with the fact that the Rockies are playing the mediocre San Diego Padres, and things should turn around quickly. The home opener is special for the city and the fans, but Rockies outfielder Carlos Gonzales may have one of the most meaningful stories associated with the game this afternoon. The Denver Post reports that his older brother and mother will watch him play a Major League Baseball game live for the first time today.
