Ethnic Eats: Thai Pot Cafe
A month ago, a reader e-mailed me asking if I'd dined at Thai Pot Cafe, a small restaurant located on South Colorado Boulevard. I immediately set out find where it was located---and to make lunch plans.
The no-frills eatery is run by Thai-born cook Tui Promsomsri and her American husband Charlie Brown. You rarely see Promsomsri, but you hear her: Every couple of minutes a bell dings indicating another dish is ready to be carried from the kitchen to the bustling dining room.
My dining companion and I opted for the pad see ew with tofu. This dish, which is pan-fried with soy sauce, is common lunch fare in Thailand---and Thai Pot's version did not disappoint. The wide rice noodles were tender, lapped with the salty-sweet caramel of black soy, and tossed with broccoli and egg.
Our second dish of pineapple curry (kang sub pra rod) was a sweet-and-sour red curry redolent of coconut milk---and a perfect foil for the savory pad see ew.
Tip: Since this is a small, mom-and-pop operation, service can be slow---plan ahead.

Most importantly this is one of two even remotely authentic Thai restaurants in Denver. (The other being US Thai in Edgewater)

I love to eat some well prepared Thai food! I might have to give this place a shot. I have driven by it a few times, but have never had any family or friends that have visited it for lunch or dinner. I was interested in giving it a taste and seeing what it was like. After reading this, I'm even more inclined to want to try it out.
