A race-record 50,421 people completed the Bolder Boulder 10k race Monday, according to the Boulder Daily Camera, with most people walking away despite crippling traffic and a medical emergency at the finish line. A 13-year-old boy's heart apparently stopped as he completed the race at Folsom Field, but medics were able to save his life. Also, the one-lane traffic on north Broadway caused some lesser drama, forcing Regional Transportation District shuttle buses to take more than 90 minutes to ferry people to the starting line. Race organizers pushed back the cutoff for the last race start-time by 30 minutes to accommodate the late arrivals, according to the Camera. In total, 53,992 people registered for the 32nd annual race, with the Ethiopian men's three-member team crossing the finish line, together, in first place. It was the group's fourth consecutive team title, The Denver Post reports, and Ethiopians won the first three individual spots. Next, Brent Vaughn---a member of Team Colorado and the first American to complete the race---crossed the finish line in fourth place. Team Colorado finished second in the team standings, ahead of Team USA and the Kenyan team, two traditional powerhouses in the race, according to the Post.
