Pizza Biz: Campagna's Best Bet

Three months ago, Campagna, an East Sixth Avenue pizzeria and salumi bar, opened in one of the city's most unforgiving spaces. The location, which has little parking and a difficult layout, has been home to several restaurants (most recently Mojitos Cuban Bistro, Mel's Bistro, and Montecito Restaurant), but we're hoping Campagna will break the cycle. If the eatery stands a chance, it'll come from dishes such as the ripieno calzone. The folded-over pizza does just what it should: showcases chewy crust lightly stuffed with spicy salami, creamy ricotta salata, fresh mozzarella, sliced Italian tomatoes, roasted garlic, and fresh oregano. The flavors are pure and evoke comfort without being heavy. Campagna's interior feels dark and a little worn, but menu items like the calzone will bring diners back---or at least entice them to order take out. 1120 E. Sixth Ave., 720-389-8773
