Faisal Shahzad---the Pakistani-American man arrested after trying to detonate a car bomb in Times Square and charged with several terrorism-related crimes---has pleaded guilty, as expected, to using weapons of mass destruction and could spend the rest of his life in prison (via The Christian Science Monitor). Shahzad---whose wife, Huma A. Mian, attended the University of Colorado from 2000 to 2004---gave U.S. officials information about his training and contacts in Pakistan, telling federal District Judge Miriam Goldman Cedarbaum he was "a Muslim soldier," avenging the deaths of Muslims killed by Americans in the war on terror. "It's a war. I am part of the answer to the U.S. terrorizing the Muslim nations and the Muslim people," he said, adding that he would plead guilty 100 times more and warning that if the United States does not exit Iraq and Afghanistan, "we will be attacking." Shahzad has never apologized, even when the judge pointed out children could have been killed if his SUV bomb had exploded on May 1.

"Did you look around to see who they were?" Cedarbaum asked (via the New York Daily News). "Well, the people select the government," Shahzad said. "We consider them all the same."
