Summer Sounds: Blues and Brews Fest

I have moved almost every year for as long as I can remember. I have a penchant for furnished, dilapidated apartments---a few carloads and I can be into a new place. But the problem with run-down places is they often come with a host of problems that merely send me looking for the next affordable abode. Then I moved in with my fiance, to a not-so-dilapidated, easy-on-the-pocketbook Platt Park apartment just steps from Sushi Den. Now, as more great restaurants open around us, it looks like Platt Park might have broken my one-year curse. Another event that helped sell me on this new neighborhood is the summertime Blues and Brews Fest, which takes place just blocks from my home on Old South Pearl Street. The next fest takes place this Saturday, starting at noon and lasting until 10 p.m. Five bucks gets you into the event, which features the tunes of eight bands, including the Lionel Young Band and George Whitsell's All Stars. There will be food vendors from some favorite local haunts, such as Hanson's and Pearl Street Grill, and popular local breweries like Oskar Blues, Left Hand Brewery, and Ska will be on hand to keep the beer flowing.
