Culture: Where to See the Metropolitan Opera for $15

We have great local options for opera here in Denver, but despite the amazing talent, I sometimes crave seeing The Metropolitan Opera. The chances of flying to New York and coughing up the ticket money, however, are slim to none, so I'm lucky the Met offers a much more affordable option. This summer, movie theaters across the nation are playing encore performances of the Met's Live in HD series, where operas throughout the traditional season are rebroadcast. Today and tomorrow we can see Bizet's Carmen, which is responsible for some of the most enjoyable and engaging music I get to perform in my other life as a classical musician. Carmen shows Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.; Thursday's times vary by theater. The opera is screened without intermission for the summer series but will include an intermission for the fall season. Here is a list of local theaters showing the opera, which includes Pavilions 15 in Denver and Bel Mar 16 and Colorado Mills Stadium 16 in Lakewood. Bonus: Want to plan ahead for next year? Check out the Met's upcoming season.
