Colorado Springs Officials Remain Concerned About the Craigslist Baby Posting

The ad on the free Internet classifieds site Craigslist read: "I have just given birth and I don't know what to do with my baby. My BF will put it in the trash can in front of my apartments so someone can pick it up. I just don't know what to do!! Please help my baby." 7News reports that the posting, which has been removed, spawned a police investigation in its city of origin, Colorado Springs.

The ad remained a mystery over the weekend, as police did their best to track down the unknown person, or persons, behind the listing in order to assure the safety of the child, writes The Gazette.

By Sunday, although police had cause to believe the ad was a hoax, they remained concerned that a baby could be in peril. They used the media to ask the parents to bring the child to authorities under the Safe Haven Law, which allows people to drop off newborn babies at a hospital or fire station without facing criminal charges (via The Denver Post).
