Fit Club: Women's Goal Setting and Outdoor Adventure Clinic

My lungs were burning and my legs were on the verge of collapse. It was well over 100 degrees in the shade, and the pack on my back weighed at least 40 pounds. If I looked down and lost my balance, the possibility was real that I would fall hundreds of feet to the desert floor. But I carried on, fatigued muscles and all, and before I knew it, I'd hiked about 12 miles up and out of the Grand Canyon, something I’d been hoping to do for years. Though slightly painful, the feeling of taking that last step after struggling up switchback after switchback in the insufferable Arizona heat filled me with pride and a sense of accomplishment. If I could do that, I could do anything.

There’s nothing better for your self-esteem and confidence than accomplishing a goal. And as far as I’m concerned, there’s no better goal to accomplish than conquering a challenging outdoor adventure.

In Colorado, adventure serves many meaningful purposes. From camping trips in Rocky Mountain National Park to weekend mountain-biking sessions, hiking in the foothills, and skiing, outdoor adventure provides fun, relief from stress, and an active diversion from our day-to-day lives. But does outdoor adventure also have the power to help you prioritize and meet your personal goals?

That’s the question at the heart of the Goal Setting and Outdoor Adventure for Women clinic offered by The Women’s Wilderness Institute. The TWWI says yes—and they want to show you how. This informative educational clinic—for women, by women—focuses on specific tools you can use to enrich your life, establish and prioritize personal goals, and achieve success by incorporating outdoor adventure into your life.

The free clinic is being held Wednesday evening at the REI Denver flagship store from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Advanced registration is recommended as there are a limited number of available spots.
