Will the Shooting of Karina Vargas Become the Next Rallying Cry Against Illegal Immigration?

During the latest race for governor, you may recall Tom Tancredo attacking Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper for running a "sanctuary city" for undocumented immigrants in Denver. One of the red-button issues was the fate of a three-year-old child, who died after an undocumented immigrant smashed his truck into a Baskin Robbins ice cream shop. Now, echoing that incident, The Denver Post reports that police have arrested 19-year-old Luis Guzman-Rincon for firing the gun responsible for putting a non-fatal bullet into 17-year-old Aurora Central High School student Karina Vargas, who is not believed to have been part of the altercation and is recovering from her injuries.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has placed a hold on Guzman-Rincon, who is thought to be in the country illegally. A native of Mexico, he was charged with attempted first-degree murder and first-degree assault and is being held in the Arapahoe County Jail in lieu of a $100,000 bond, according to The Aurora Sentinel.
