A lot of positive buzz is surrounding the University of Colorado's new head football coach, Jon Embree, but it could take some time for him to lead the school out of the recruiting doldrums. The Denver Post reports most of Colorado's major recruits are choosing to play for other schools. A Post list of Colorado's top 15 recruits has just seven staying in state, spread out among CU, Colorado State University, and Air Force Academy. Players like Chaparral lineman Brendon Austin (Stanford) and Valor Christian quarterback Brock Berglund (Kansas) have spurned local schools.
Even players who aren't considered top prospects are leaving. It's not all bad news, though: Post columnist Natalie Meisler points out that CU's new offensive coordinator, Eric Bieniemy, is getting high marks for his recruiting efforts in southern California. And CU's website notes that some new recruits are already on campus and taking spring semester classes.
