Go Now: Ale House at Amato’s
As Memorial Day weekend draws near, my mind is preoccupied with thoughts of burgers—and, consequently, beer. Needing to satisfy the craving a little early, I headed for a new addition to the burgeoning Lower Highland neighborhood, Ale House at Amato’s, which features creative burgers and 40 beers on tap (plus another dozen in bottles and cans).
Breckenridge Brewery and Wynkoop Brewing Company own the spot, but the suds are sourced from various breweries and include local favorites—like Avery Brewing and Great Divide Brewing Co.—as well as craft options from across the country (try something from Missouri’s Boulevard Brewing Company).
The ale-burger combinations are endless, but I recommend the Cholula-jalapeño burger paired with Breck’s SummerBright Ale. The burger itself is simple, yet it manages a complex taste: A brioche bun is topped with a beef patty (or bison if you prefer) and cream cheese, which has been mixed with Cholula Hot Sauce and roasted jalapeños. A general rule of thumb is to pair spicy dishes with fruitier ales or wheat beers, and SummerBright complements the burger without stealing the spotlight.
Another fine combo is the sweet Glider Cider paired with the earthy West Side burger, which arrives topped with applewood-smoked bacon and Gorgonzola.
Tip: If you can’t decide on a pairing, order your favorite burger and a flight of beers, which lets you determine the perfect match.

Horrable food and Rude people
I just want to start by saying that I have never written a review like this untill yesterdays experiance. I have been to the Ale House at Amato's several times. My fiance and I have been looking for a new place to go and really wanted it to be Amato's because of the close location to our house. However, the three times we have eaten there, the food was less than ok. I hate to say it but that is not even the reason why I am writting this revue.
For the last week I have been trying to find a place with a large balcony for my engagement party. Amato's was at the bottom of my list because of thier food but was hoping they were more affordable. I had been calling for the last 5 days trying to reach their catering manager Katie N. After not getting any of my phone calls returned I called saying I wanted to talk to someone and get it planned yesterday.
Katie called me back and had the rudest tone in her voice like she was to go to be planning my party for 50 people. She asked for details that I had left in every message starting with the date. After I had given all of the information she informed me that the Ale House does not do large parties on Fri or Sat nights. I was shocked and asked how that was possible.
She told me that clearly I was clueless because they were not going to be host my party. When I asked why she was so rude she informed me to figure it out and that she did not have time for this conversation. All having the rudest tone in her voice.
After this final experiance I would not suggest that you eat there and/or try to plan a party. I definitly would not work with Katie.
