I like a bargain, particularly when it comes to food and wine. And last month, I was introduced to Club Wino, which has got to be the city's best dining steal. The third Wednesday of each month, sommelier and local wine writer Jacob Harkins throws a wine dinner for up to 25 people at Spuntino in Highland. He picks four wines—all Colorado juice, mind you—and chef Raul Salazar creates four accompanying dishes. The price? A mere $27 (if you pay in advance). (If you're a returning "member" of the Club Wino dinners, the price drops to $24.30).
The value is obvious, but even better, it's a chance to try Colorado's best wines without having to blindly navigate the liquor store.
The next dinner (there are only two seats left) is on Wednesday, October 19 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The theme is "An Almost Holiday Party." The seasonal Italian eats will lean toward Thanksgiving, providing a taste of local wines you might consider for your holiday table. (I hear Gewürztraminer and Pinot Noir will make showings.)
Bargain Bonus: For another affordable evening out, check out Udi's Vegan Supper Club. Typically held the last Monday of each month, this $24, all-you-can-eat vegan dinner just might make a convert of you. (The eats were delicious enough to nab a Top of the Town win.)
