Bakery Biz: Taste of Denmark

Thanks to a reader tip, I've joined the throngs of Taste of Denmark fans who line up for Ronny and Diana Tronoe's exquisite pastries. The Lakewood bakery's warm, sugared air intoxicates just as the selection of from-scratch croissants, kringles, scones, Danishes, strudels, macaroons, tartlets, and cookies overwhelms.

When I made it to the front of the line, I chose a half-dozen treats—and all were expertly buttery and sweet. My favorite item of all was a last-minute impulse: a thin, honeycomb-like waffle sandwiched with pastry cream and a dollop of raspberry jam. So simple and delicate, the cookie was especially satisfying when paired with a cup of strong, dark coffee.
