Styling Tip: Shapewear

With the start of the spring social season and parties galore on the horizon, we thought it was time to share our favorite shapewear pieces to help ease that transition from cozy sweaters to flirty frocks. Although it's a wardrobe staple for plenty of women—even those matchstick-thin actresses on the red carpet—all shapewear is not created equal. So we went in search of performance pieces that could make any lady look sexy as opposed to squeezed into her granny’s girdle.

To smooth out your curves and give your décolletage a lovely shape, try Result Wear’s classic Marilyn Slip with back zipper (pictured right). The company's website offers excellent tips and tricks on sizing and how to wear.

Find it: $169, Neiman Marcus, 3030 E. First Ave., 303-329-2600, neimanmarcus.com, or resultwearshop.com

Whether you're scouring for special-occasion dressing or you're in need of a little extra everyday help, pick up a smoothing thong by Nearly Nude (pictured left). The lightweight cotton and spandex mix controls the tummy and disappears under clothing (no more panty lines!).

Find it: $26, nearlynudeunderwear.com

We also like Body Wrap’s Pinup Bodysuit (pictured above; with underwire) because it’s completely seamless, flattens the tummy, and eliminates back bulges. Perfect for under a fitted cocktail dress or evening gown.

Find it: $78, bodywrap-shapewear.com
