LoDo is awash in pizza shops: Wazee Supper Club, Osteria Marco, Wazee Wood Fire Pizza, Sauced, Brava!, Mangiamo Pronto!, and Two-Fisted Mario’s are all located within a few blocks of each other. And, now there’s one more: Lucky Pie Pizza & Tap House opened last week on the corner of 16th and Wazee streets (in half of the old Dixons‘ space).

Thanks to the well priced, creative pies like the Alvin (pictured) with acorn squash purée, fig gastrique, and maple walnuts, and goat cheese, this Louisville spinoff has already found a Denver following. The pizza combinations aren’t wacky for the sake of being madcap, no, instead the flavors are balanced and thoughtful. Add a space that’s bright and cheerful (I adore the red-and-white upholstery on the banquets), the watch-em-make-it mozzarella bar, and a lengthy list of beer on tap. Guess who’s about to become a regular?

Don’t miss: Pair your pie with the excellent apple salad: mixed greens, cayenne walnuts, chèvre, and a not-too-sweet maple vinaigrette.
