Sunday Retreat: Lola

It's Sunday afternoon, unbearably hot, and you're looking for a distraction. The solution: Lola's Sunday afternoon live music on the shaded patio. Here, happy hour drink specials last as long as the music—from 2:30 to 5 p.m. Choose a sipper from a list of 150 tequilas, or opt for something clean and simple like the Silver Coin margarita, a blend of Herradura Blanco, orange liqueur, and lime juice.

Then, at 5 p.m. when dinner service begins, head into the restaurant's blessedly cool and dark interior and take advantage of the Coastal Mexican menu. On Sunday evenings, Lola specializes in family-style paella crowded with mussels, clams, shrimp, sausage, chicken, and fried calamari. Or, choose something from the new summer menu launched June 27. (The achiote half chicken, pictured, is already getting a lot of attention.) Whatever you decide, don't forget the tableside, made-to-order guacamole. I order guac all over town, and have yet to find a dip that surpasses this one.
