Best Bites: 240 Union's Carbonara Pizza

240 Union opened 23 years ago in Lakewood just south of Sixth Avenue on Union Street. Since then, the restaurant has gained a solid reputation on the west side for its "upscale-casual" vibe, contemporary American menu, and dependable service.

I visited recently and ordered the carbonara pizza—a comfort-food dish that fits right in with the warm, comfortable surroundings. The chewy crust was topped with my favorite breakfast foods—a yolky fried egg and applewood-smoked bacon, as well as Parmesan cheese and just the right amount of kicky black pepper. Happily, the pizza was too large to consume in one sitting, and I was able to enjoy the rest of this breakfast-for-dinner meal the next morning.

Bonus: 240 Union is celebrating its 23rd anniversary by offering 23 different bottles of wine for just $23—a deal that can't be beat anywhere in town.
