New: Arlene's Bistro and Creperie

January 2013

Following a top-to-bottom remodel, Arlene's Bistro and Creperie has taken over the Crepes A La Cart space on Broadway in downtown Boulder. The new concept, which is owned by Arlene and Alessandro La Marca, transformed the simple crepe eatery into a bright new bistro centered around local, organic produce.

The facelift turned a dark, dingy, garden-level space into a cozy, upscale spot. White tablecloths, blond and black wicker furniture, and long, upholstered booths are the new focal points, along with a revamped open kitchen and a tiny bar in back.

The menu features a well-honed list of classic French bistro fare, including a handful of sweet and savory crepes, fresh salads (though somewhat predictable, the Cured Farms beets with Haystack Mountain goat cheese is a go-to), and soups. As with many new restaurants, there are kinks to work out, most notably: meats need proper seasoning and the savory crepes would do better with heartier fillings. One dish that needs no fiddling: the maple-chipotle pork loin (pictured) with braised kale and creamy mashed potatoes.
