Opening Jimmy’s Urban Bar & Grill in the heart of busy LoDo must have felt like a dream come true for chef Jimmy Bernat and his parents and co-owners, Jim and Alicia. While the Bernat family has been behind several area restaurants, not all have been in the most visible of locations.

Take the now-defunct Urban Bliss Cafe, for example, once hidden inside Broomfield’s Seasons’ Bliss Event Center. While the obscure setting didn’t offer many opportunities for drop-in business, it did allow Jimmy the opportunity to develop some of his signature sandwiches. These items—and more—appear on the menu at his busy new LoDo grill. One of Bernat’s best creations is the Chicago-style Italian beef sandwich called Big Jimmy’s Beef, which combines juicy, house-roasted Italian beef on a hearty roll, topped with your choice of sweet peppers or house-made giardinera (order both).

Other highlights include the generous Acropolis Naan with superfresh flatbread cradling thick slices of tender gyros meat, fresh heirloom tomato, crispy red onion, crumbled goat cheese, and creamy riata sauce. There’s also the Fatal Attraction pulled pork and brisket sandwich with drunken onions, crispy slaw, pickles, and a light drizzle of smoky barbeque sauce on a griddled bun.

Tip: Cool off with the refreshing Melon Margarti-O cocktail with Patron Reposado, Midori melon liquor, muddled lime, a splash of soda, and fresh honeydew melon.
