Yoga, farm-fresh ingredients, craft beer, and morning bike rides—all for good causes. Here's what's going on in the community this week.
Hike: Join the Sierra Club on September 14 for a benefit hike at Roxborough State Park in support of the preservation of Colorado’s wilderness and outdoor recreation spaces. Hikers can choose to gather pledges from friends and family (minimum of $15 plus a $10 registration fee), or simply come out and enjoy the day ($25 registration fee). Bonus: Pledge hikers can compete for prizes including Patagonia gear and a zip-line adventure for two.
Pose: There will be live music, food, and, yes, plenty of yoga at Yoga For A Cause’s final event of the summer on September 14. Each program held by this Denver-based organization benefits a local nonprofit, and this summer 70 percent of your ticket price ($12 in advance or $15 at the door) will go to The Gathering Place, a drop-in center for homeless or struggling women, children, and transgendered individuals.
Explore: Support local agriculture with a bike-to-farm tour in Boulder County on September 15. The Tour des Farms begins with a morning bike ride, which concludes at Lone Hawk Farm, where you will enjoy live music and lunch prepared with fresh ingredients and beer from a microbrewery. This trip is led by Awe-Struck Outdoors, an organization that promotes community, local farms, and eco-literacy.
Taste: Try 26 craft beers at 26 different bars across the city on September 14 with Denver’s First Annual Beerathon. Enter as a group or go solo and meet other Denver beer buffs. Tickets start at $55, and a portion goes to Excelsior Youth Center, a Denver nonprofit that provides treatment for adolescent girls struggling with social and emotional problems.
