Sips: Check Out Three New Denver Bars

February 20 2014, 9:30 AM

Tired of your usual haunts? Mix up your drinking routine at one of these new watering holes.

Roosevelt

Owner Greg Gallagher’s latest endeavor (pictured, above) opened December 26 next door to one of his other outposts, the Front Porch, and is—in a word—cool. Walls adorned with vintage typewriters, ladders, and books cultivate an Americana vibe that underscores the bar’s focus on American small-batch distilleries and craft breweries. Tip: Get a seat in the elevated section under the bookshelves for a particularly dignified experience. 1512 Larimer St., Unit R-29, rooseveltdenver.com

LowDown Brewery + Kitchen

This Golden Triangle brewery has a full bar, but its beer pedigree is the main attraction: Owners Philip Phifer and Scott O’Hearn boast a combined 20+ year tenure as pro brewmasters at Rock Bottom Restaurant & Brewery. The duo plans to have 10 original creations on tap when LowDown opens on February 11. Be sure to try the signature concoction: a light, mild American Pale Ale. 800 Lincoln St., lowdownbrewery.com

BaRed

Fresh off of its New Year’s Eve opening, BaRed—pronounced “bar red”—aims to deliver meticulously crafted cocktails. It is certainly poised to achieve that, thanks to an in-house mixologist that devised exclusive drinks using top-notch liquor (think cognac cocktails and house-barreled gin). Beer drinkers have to settle for just four taps, but owner Zach Young says another four are in the works. Perch at a table by the large windows for excellent people-watching along Colfax Avenue. 437 W. Colfax Ave., barreddenver.com
