Book Your Summer Outdoor Getaway

March 19 2014, 1:00 PM

Spring starts tomorrow, which means summer isn't far off. Families all across the Front Range are beginning to scout where they'll plant tent stakes or which tucked-away cabin will serve as home base for an outdoorsy vacation. The mountains may be vast, but some of the most accommodating spots will fill up fast. Here are some ideas for where to lay your claim for a few summer nights in the woods.

YMCA of the Rockies Estes Park: Reservations open on April 2 for lodge rooms (think: hotel rooms in the woods), two-bedroom cabins, four-bedroom cabins, and reunion cabins that sleep around 30 people. Rates start around $99 per night with many activities like archery, zip-lining, horseback riding, and hiking. Reservations can be made online at ymcarockies.org.

Colorado State Parks: There are more than 3,900 campsites and 50 cabins/yurts in the Colorado State Park system. You don't have to go far with cabins available just outside of Golden in Golden Gate State Park that start around $70 per night.

10th Mountain Division Hut System: Reservations for summer started back on October 1, but there are still vacancies to be found. The 10th Mountain Division Hut System does between a third and half of the bookings it does in the winter. No online reservations here. You need to call 970-925-5775.
